"My sculptures spiritually harmonize man and his environment, mentally and physically; this is why I call them Lifescapes."

To call Master Yuyu Yang a national treasure of the Republic of China is an enormous understatement.  The cultural importance placed on this gifted artist has allowed him international acclaim.

Working primarily in stainless steel, Master Yang feels that the mirror like surfaces unite his sculpture with the environment.  The joining of environment and sculpture have become the central philosophy of his work.

Yuyu Yang studied art in Beijing, architecture in Japan and became a professor at the Taiwan National University.  He studied art in Italy, his work was collected by the Vatican.  He lived in Rome for three years.

The internationally renowned architect I. M.  Pei commissioned Master Yang to create a monumental sculpture for the Osaka World Expo in 1970, and the "East West Gate" sculpture sited in New York City's Wall Street District.

In 1992 the government of Taiwan made possible the Yuyu Yang Lifescape Sculpture Museum in Taipei.  The museum exhibits his life's work.

Yuyu  Yang has been inspired most by the natural, modest and robust life aesthetics of the Wei and Jin Period (220-420 A.D.) of Chinese history.  His major commissions in America, Japan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Singapore and France draw from the rich history of Chinese culture.
